Circus is so very wonderful to me, because I know that no matter where I go, I can always find welcoming, like-minded individuals. That’s why I do it. That’s why I love it.
And Social Media is what has turned this community into the thriving international entity that it is today. Which in turn inspired me to focus my efforts and time within that field.
I’m a recent NYU graduate with a B.F.A. in Theatre. While in NYC, Tash introduced me to the world of Hooping back in 2006. And I’ve been fascinated ever since. I subsequently stumbled into the culture of Burning Man, Poi, and all things skill toys. For me, growing up in suburban Dallas, it was a bit of a culture shock. I soon began to realize, however, that the community I’d experienced in Theatre, existed 10 times over in the circus arts community. It’s an incredible feeling, knowing that when you see someone else spinning poi, or hooping, anywhere in the world, you can simply walk up to them and say hi. Especially in a place like NYC, where everyone shuts down, the ability to break through those barriers using circus arts is a very powerful thing.
And so, in turn, I’ve tried to dedicate much of my time to furthering this community. Whether it be teaching lessons, blogging, performing, or simply jamming, I strive to spread circus love. I have moved back to NYC and I am currently working at Saatchi & Saatchi as the Community Manager for Trident Gum.
