Well, I have looked up the info regarding fire conclaves on the playa, and it seems as though we must register to be considered by March 1st. So that gives us a good three months to put something together! Here is what we’re looking for… Any fire performers planning on going to Burning Man next year, from the Austin area, who would like to join a fire conclave, please email us at: thegyronauts@gmail.com with the header Fire Conclave 2010 Please provide the following information: Name, Phone, Email, and a brief Bio of your experiences working with fire. Please list any and all fire tools you perform with, or could perform with. Any videos of your past performances are highly appreciated but not necessary. We also will be needing fire safeties for the performance. Please indicate if you would like to be a safety instead of a performer. All safeties will be taught the proper techniques so prior experience is not required, but again, helpful. As far as who the Gyronauts are and our own experience in fire conclaves, we were a part of the Sparkworks conclave for Burning Man 2008. The conclave was based out of NYC, and consisted of about 12-15 performers. We used poi, hoop, rope dart, staff, and ring. The conclave was featured in a NY Times article that summer before the burn. Keep in mind, if we are chosen to be a part of the ceremonies, the participants must be committed to actually going to Burning Man. Yes, if something important comes up and you can’t make it, then we will understand. But otherwise, only people who are actually planning on going next year should apply. Here is a rough cut of the audition video we submitted in 08 Granted it is rough, but it goes to show that we don’t need a completed project by then, just a skeleton. Also, if you are going to Burning Man, would like to be a part of the conclave, but are saying to yourself, “Gee I don’t spin fire though. Drat!” No worries. There is still plenty of time to learn.
